Learning to Bless Others

I took my seventh grade students on a field trip today, and it was to a very educational location... called, "the mall." That is right, I took them shopping. The whole school is involved in buying presents for Angel Tree. This means that each class is buying gifts for a child whose parents are in prison and unable to buy any. We send them to Angel Tree and they send them to the child saying it is from his or her parents.

Not only was this an opportunity for my students to learn what it is like to give to the less fortunate, but we learned how we could bless others in the school as well. Not only did we buy the present from the seventh grade class, but we bought the presents that will be from each grade in the elementary as well. It is much harder for the elementary teachers to take their students shopping or to trust a few of the student to buy the gifts on their own time, so we blessed them and went shopping for them.

At first, as I explained this to my students, they weren't too excited. Remember, I have mostly boys, and the idea of buying presents for little girls wasn't trilling. By the end of today, they were excited about buying dolls, nail polish, headbands, and bracelets. They were able to by some gifts for a couple boys as well. We had a successful day and because of it, there are now six children who will be blessed on Christmas. Praise God!

My kiddos are getting excited for our trip to the mall!!!

Being silly... I love these guys.

They are showing off the seventh grade gifts that are for a twelve year old girl.

They are proud of some of the cool things they found today!
Overall... a successful trip to the mall!
Praises:
1. My students were able to bless other people in our school.
2. The first field trip I have even been in charge of was a success.
3. My students were happy to live up to the responsibility given to them.

Prayer Requests:
1. Please pray for these children we bought the gift for.
2. Please pray for all our staff as life is getting a little crazy with Christmas programs and subbing for those who are traveling.
3. Pray for all of us who are not going home to be with family this Christmas.
